Alert citizens help nab burglary suspects

The Bryan Police Department was dispatched to a burglary of a habitation in progress in the 3300 block of Augusta Drive in Bryan, Texas. Alert citizens saw the suspicious activity and were able to direct the police to the vehicle involved in the burglary.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at Hensel Park, on South College Ave in College Station. Officers contacted the occupants of the vehicle and investigated the possible burglary of habitation. Items were recovered from the vehicle that were reported stolen from the residents. Three laptop computers, gaming devices, a rare coin collection, and other miscellaneous items were stolen from the house and recovered from the vehicle. It was estimated that $10,000 worth of property was stolen by the suspects and recovered by the police. The occupants were arrested and transported to the Brazos County Jail.

The suspects were charged with Burglary of a Habitation. Burglary of a Habitation is a Second Degree Felony and is punishable by confinement for a term from 2 to 20 years in prison; and an optional fine not to exceed $10,000.

Neighbors report increase in thefts during August

Neighbors on Edgewood and Enfield are reporting an increase in criminal activity during August.

Among the reports:

• A dog stolen from a backyard.
• Thefts of several bicycles and scooters.
• A burglary of a vehicle.

Car burglaries reported in Garden Acres area

Bryan Police Officer J. P. Ingram reports:

Car burglaries in 7 zone continue to be one of our problems. Please remember to take your valuables out of the car and into the house with you.

The other night a neighbor in Austin Colony reported two suspicious persons in the neighborhood, this report let to the apprehension of four people all being charged with two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle. Please continue to report all suspicious activity to the Bryan Police Department.

Sega palms are targets of frequent thefts in Zone 7, Bryan police report

I wanted to inform you all that the Bryan Police Department is getting an increase number of reports that sago palms are being stolen from residences in 7 zone at nighttime. It appears that someone has found a market for this plants, either by being in the landscape business, or is attempting to sell them door to door. Most of the plants that have been taken where in some type of pot, and most where mature plants.

Online map system to track police/fire calls in Bryan is ready for launch

A message from Bryan Police Officer J. P. Ingram, Neighborhood Enforcement Team 7 Zone:

Some of you maybe already aware that the city's IT department has been building an online, push-pin map system for citizens to see where calls for police and fire help are made to within the city of Bryan. This system would allow you to log on to the city of Bryan's website and see where officers have responded to within a 24 hour time period and to see what case reports were written.

I know some of you have told me that you are interested in having this available so that you can see what type of police calls and crimes are being reported in your neighborhoods. This project is complete and now is in the hands of the city council for approval. If this is something that you want to have at your disposal, then contact your city council person or person(s) and ask for this to be passed.

This is a great way for us to use technology against the bad guys, and against those who inhabit homes in our areas that are constantly having the police problems. If you have any questions about this please feel free to call me at 979-209-5549 or send me an email.

Attempted burglarly reported at Broadmoor apartment complex

On Feb. 9, Bryan police were dispatched to an apartment at 2300 Broadmoor to investigate a reported burglary. A witness reported that two suspects attempted to break into the apartment through a sliding glass door in back at around 2:30 p.m.

The suspects are described as a black male and a Hispanic mail, ages 19-21. The pair fled the scene before police arrived.

Police are asking residents to keep an eye out for a 2000 Pontiac four-door auto bearing Texas license plate PSX 201. Sightings should be reported immediately to Bryan police at 361-3888
